About The Study Permit
This is a document that serves as permission to study in Canada. It issued to foreign students by immigration authorities in Canada. You need a valid one to study in this country. Also, there are designated learning institutions for which you can get a study permit.

You will be eligible for the one if you have;
- Firstly, a letter of acceptance from a designated institution.

Applying For The Student Visa/Study Permit
Obtaining a Student Visa in Canada is a process. We have explained three steps through which you must follow.
Step 1: Apply to your preferred Canadian university
Canada has many universities preferred by thousands of foreign students every year. This is because of the high-quality standards and foreign collaborations. So, you have a variety of options. Decide from which university you want to study. Send an application. If you are accepted, you will receive a letter of acceptance.
Step 2: Check if you need a student visa
Not all students will need a study visa in Canada. You may not need one if;
- Either, you are a family member of a foreign representative based in Canada.
- You are a staff member of a foreign representative based in Canada.
- Your program will last for less than six months
Step 3: Apply for Student Visa
You need several documents to apply for the Canadian student visa.
- Valid Passport or travel document
To apply for a study permit, you will need a travel document. Your document should be valid until the last minute you intend to stay in Canada. For example, if you want to stay in Canada from May 2021 to May 2023 for a two year course, your document should be valid until May 2023. But, this is not necessary if you live in the USA.
- Letter of acceptance
In the first step, you received an offer of admittance in your preferred university in Canada. You will need this letter when applying for a Student Visa.
- Proof of funds
You must provide proof of enough funds. This will show that you have enough financial resources to pay for tuition fees and personal expenses and at least CAD 10,000.
You will need two recent photos in passport size.
- Proof of English language proficiency
You’ll need to submit your score on the English language proficiency test. The accepted tests are;
- Cambridge English: Advanced
But, this is not a must requirement at the time of application. It is however, recommended.
- Statement of purpose
You will also need a letter stating the purpose of your travel to Canada. This letter should also include the reason for choosing your university. This is not a must requirement though recommended.
- Immigration medical examination
Students from India have to book appointments with listed doctors. After a complete exam is performed, the results are sent to CIC.

You can apply for a Student Visa in two ways;
This involves downloading the application form, completing it, and then presenting your application in person. You should also download the instruction guide. You will find important information that will help complete the application.
You may apply online. You will need to scan your documents and upload them. You’ll also need a valid credit card for making payments. But, you’ll still visit the VFS offices. Here, you will present your passports, and form confirmation.
For the Canadian student visa, there is no specific processing time. You may have processing time indicated in the Canadian consulate website. But, this is just an estimate. But, processing starts when you apply.
Study Permit Renewal
Sometimes, your student visa may expire before you complete the studies. In this case, you may need a permit renewal. Apply for this renewal a month before your current visa expires.
